In our previous article, SEO for WordPress site [Part 1] - SEO for Posts-Articles - , we guided how to do meta-tag SEO for Posts-Articles of your small WordPress Site, without SEO plugins.

Today, we will guide you how to put the basic meta-tags "robots", "description", "keywords", "canonical" to your Pages without plugins. Our DEMO site runs on the way.

How to put meta-tags in a Pages

  • "Keywords": made by the value that you wrote in the "Custom Fields" column
  • "Description": made by the value​that you wrote in the "Excerpt" column
  • "Canonical": made by the value that you wrote in the "Custom Fields" column
  • "Robots": made by the value that you wrote in the "Custom Fields" column

The different point of SEO of Pages from SEO of Posts-Articles is "Keywords".

How to create meta tags for a Pages

  • (0) Use "header-SEO.php" that you and we created when we did SEO for Posts-Articles. You and we will write a code for Pages under the code for Posts-Articles. Then, open your header-SEO.php with any text-editor-software.
  • (1) By the same text-editor-software you use in the step (0), open your "functions.php", and write a code below at the bottom of the functions.php:
  • (2) Click "Pages" on your WordPress Admin-Window,　and open the article you'd like to do SEO.
  • (3) Write the character corresponding to the "description" on the "Excerpt" column of the "Pages-Window". 150-160 characters would be good. Count the number of characters by using the "Counting Letters of the Rainbow-Link".
  • (4) To the "Custom Fields" column of the "Pages-Window", create a name called "meta_canonical". And copy and paste a permanent link to the "value" field. It is corresponding to the "canonical" of the meta-tag.
  • (5) To the "Custom Fields" column of the "Pages-Window", create a name called "meta_robots". And write "index" to the "value" field. It is corresponding to the "robots" of the meta-tag.
  • (6) To the "Custom Fields" column of the "Post-Window", create a name called "meta_keywords". And write keywords to the "value" field, separate keywords with commas. It is corresponding to the "keywords" of the meta-tag.
  • (7) In the "header-SEO.php", copy and paste the contents of the frame below.
